After becoming established as a self-taught artist specialising in reconstructing extinct species, Julian Hume undertook a degree in palaeontology at the University of Portsmouth, followed by a PhD which enabled him to merge the two disciplines of art and science. Julian is widely travelled and involved in many fossil excavations, particularly on remote oceanic islands.
He has published books and a number of scientific papers on the subject, and he is presently a Research Fellow at the Natural History Museum, London.
