Mike Hughes's preferred medium is acrylic, although he enjoys pencil and ink, too. He also works digitally and has just completed a large digital illustration for Avon Wildlife trust.
His recent first solo exhibition featured a series of paintings and drawings, where light and shadow are as much of a feature as the wildlife.
Working as a freelance illustrator for the past 10 years Mike's illustrations have appeared in books, magazines, posters, brochures, leaflets and identification panels, ranging from small scientific studies to huge murals. His client list includes many wildlife and conservation organisations throughout the UK.
Mike moved from his native Lancashire to rural Devon, where he now lives with his young family.
