Passionate about wildlife from childhood and a keen conservationist for the past 34 years, Susan Shimeld combines her love for the natural world with art. Initially self-taught, her career began as a professional wildlife artist in 1989, and a year later, she exhibited her work at the Society of Wildlife Artists Exhibition, at the Mall Galleries, in London. Then in the 90s, she completed a natural-history illustration course at the Bournemouth College of Art and Design.
She has since exhibited her artwork at The Orangutan Foundation seminar, held at The Zoological Society of London, as well as illustrating two books working alongside the UK Wolf Conservation Trust : A New Era for Wolves and People, by Dr Marco Musiani (University of Calgary Press, 2009).
Her work has also been featured in The British Wildlife, Dorset Wildlife and Artists & Illustrators magazines, and in April 2009, she was selected as a finalist in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.
